MORE than 700 Chorley fans voted in an online poll to name the club’s new magpie mascot – and one name soared ahead of the rest.
That name was Victor in homage to the club’s ground.
But Victor is not alone after superstitious staff at the club decided he needed a wing man.
According to the nursery rhyme, you can expect some bad luck if you see a solitary magpie, hence the line ‘One For Sorrow’.
However, if you see two magpies together it’s meant to bring good luck, as coined by the phrase ‘Two For Joy’.
With that in mind, the club have decided two magpies are better than one, so Victor will have a companion, Merlin.
