FOOTBALL fans who cause trouble on the local transport network will be targeted by police this weekend.
There are several derby matches in the region, including Preston North End v Burnley and Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United.
Blackburn Rovers also face northern opposition at home to Newcastle United.
BTP Chief Inspector Eddie Wylie said: “We expect Saturday to be extremely busy as there are a number of derby matches in the North West.
“Many fans will use the railways to get to and from the grounds and we will be stepping up patrols at a variety of stations to monitor the extra numbers and deal with any potential problems.”
He said troublemakers will be shown the red card by officers, who will seek football banning orders against any individual who engages in disorder.
Supporters are reminded to adhere to “dry train” restrictions which mabe be in force during the weekend.
