HIS family may not have the greatest of relations with the BBC, but Darren Ferguson wants his Preston players to be on top form in front of the Match of the Day cameras at Turf Moor tomorrow night.

Preston travel to take on Burnley in a 5.15pm kick-off, with the Championship fixture to be shown live on BBC2, and Ferguson is unlikely to follow his father’s lead in refusing to speak to the Beeb after the match.

Sir Alex Ferguson famously severed relations with the BBC after son Jason was the subject of a Panorama investigation into his business dealings in 2004. He was never found guilty of any wrongdoing.

But Darren, who took over as Preston boss in January after leaving Peterborough, wants his players to put on a show for the BBC tomorrow as he tastes his first experience of this particular Lancashire derby.

The Lilywhites impressed in pre-season with a 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, but they are currently 21st in the Championship with three defeats from their first four games.

“It’s a massive game for everybody concerned,” said Ferguson.

“Bragging rights are at stake for our supporters.

“It’s live on television. We will take a big following there and hopefully, we will give a performance.

“It’ll be a great atmosphere – both clubs have great traditions.”
