Preston's in-form striker Neil Mellor should be able to ease manager Alan Irvine's stiker concerns by shrugging off a hamstring injury in time for North End's home match with Barnsley on Saturday.

Mellor was forced to withdraw from Preston's 2-2 draw with QPR last week with a tight hamstring but he optimistic he will be fully recovered in time before the weekend.

Mellor has hit goal scoring form recently, netting three times in his last two matches.

He said: "It's not too bad, I think it was cramp more than anything. I'm hoping to be fit on Saturday.

"I'm feeling good at the moment, I want to be top goalscorer and that objective is still there with a few games to go."

It should mean that Preston manager Alan Irvine will not have to recall Brett Ormerod from his loan spell Notts Forest.

This is still a possibilty if Mellor is not fit as Hungarian international Tomas Priskin has ended his month- long loan spell at Preston as that would mean Irvine would have just Karl Hawley and Chris Brown available to play as recognised forwards.

Priskin returned to Vicarage Road after being recalled by Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd.

The 21-year-old striker has scored two goals in five appearances for North End, against Burnley and QPR.

Preston manager Alan Irvine said: "I'd like to thank Tamas for his efforts while he has been here.

"I'd have taken two goals from him when he first agreed to come to us on loan and they have been big goals so I'm really pleased with what he has done for us."
