LANCASHIRE seamer Glen Chapple goes into today's LV County Championship match with Surrey confident the team can bounce back from the disappointment of Sunday's Friends Provident Trophy defeat to Warwickshire.

Chapple was the stand out performer in the narrow two-wickets defeat, striking 66 with the bat and claiming 1-30 from his eight overs with the ball as Lancs attempted to defend a total of 183.

But that was of no real consolation to the Red Rose all-rounder, who admitted the Lightning failed to post enough runs in the first innings of the game to give themselves a fighting chance.

However, Chapple and his team-mates have little time to dwell on that set-back as Surrey now lie in waiting at Old Trafford, and fresh from posting a world record limited-overs score of 496 against Gloucestershire at the weekend, Mark Ramprakash's Division One newcomers are likely to prove difficult opponents.

Lancashire drew their opening round fixture against Warwickshire at Edgbaston just under a fortnight ago, so they will be looking to get their season up and running with a morale-boosting performance on home soil over the next four days.

"We played some very good cricket down at Edgbaston a few weeks ago after a very dodgy start, and we are very confident of playing some good cricket this week," said Chapple.

"Surrey always play aggressive cricket, they have done in the past, and we will be expecting no different, regardless of how they have started the season.

"But we certainly back ourselves to be a better team if we fire on all cylinders.

"If we do that, then hopefully we will come away with a good result."

On a personal level, Chapple certainly seems to be firing on all cylinders' after a promising start to the new campaign.

He added: "I am happy, reasonably fit, getting the ball in the right place and scoring some runs.

"I have got a good foundation to take some positive performances into the rest of the season."
