Fishing the Ribble Link, yes you can, no you can't, yes you can, no you can't...

Did you know British Waterways (BW) does not allow fishing on the Ribble Link? This apparently is due to safety reasons and the fact that the Environment Agency use the Savick Brook, now the Ribble Link as a storm drain for Preston. In other words Preston is saved from flooding by diverting flood water down the Ribble Link and byewashes (through Lea).

But there are BW signs saying 'No fishing' beyond this point... in other words you can fish up to this point. (See Lock 8 beyond the Golf Course). So you can fish? Err... no you can't because it isn't safe.

The steep embankments, flood water etcetera is a risk to fishermen. (General Public don't count.. only fishermen!). Much of the Link is fenced off by British Waterways because access is restricted, i.e not allowed.

British Waterways do not accept responsibility for anything on or including the northern bank. So you can fish that side. No you can't. Yes you can....

Although it isn't strictly Lea, PCC are responsible for the Ribble Link northern bank from Lea Road to the Railway Bridge. Add them to the equation... they don't even fence it off, so it can't be that great a risk. Yes it is, no it isn't yes it is... behind you!

Oh don't ask me!

It's all very confusing.

However don't forget if you do go fishing anywhere in England you need an Environment Agency Rod Licence.
