Hyndburn's women have been promoted to First Division of the Mid Lancs Track and Field League after winning Division Two by a huge margin.

In the final standings announced following the fifth match held recently at Wilson Playing Fields, Blackburn Harriers' women were fourth in Division One, but Pendle and Rossendale were relegated.

Hyndburn's men are already in the top flight and were the leading local club in third and only a handful of points behind Preston.

Blackburn held station with fifth, but Burnley and Rossendale in sixth and seventh suffered demotion.

One of Hyndburn's stars, Nicola Breaks, has been rewarded for her excellent season by being chosen to represent the North of England U23 Team in an Inter Regional Match at Derby.

There she set a best distance of 11.06m in the triple jump to finish fifth against athletes from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the South and the Midlands.

Meanwhile, Blackburn Harriers were fourth in their qualifying match in the Northern Knockout Cup at Wigan.

In a non-seeded draw, they were undoubtedly drawn in the harder tie and were beaten by Trafford, City of Manchester (Sale) and Liverpool.

They will not progress to the final, but are expected to accept an invitation for the Plate Final.
