CHORLEY Harriers enjoyed a fine day at the hugely popular Norman Matthews Winter Hill Fell Race on Sunday.
The race, named after Horwich RMI’s former national fell race champion, featured 2,749 feet of climbing spread over 11 miles of dank and foggy moorland above Rivington.
Over 170 athletes took to the tough course at Horwich and, from our East Lancashire entrants, Chorley’s Dominic Raby came out on top, finishing seventh overall.
Club-mate Lynne Clough was the event’s leading female in the over 40 category, with Chorley’s Natasha Fellowes coming second.
The event attracted a strong showing from Pudsey & Bramley AC as the club provided three of a four-man group that finished nearly eight minutes clear of the pack.
Other local performers figuring highly included Blackburn Harriers pair John Sutton (15th) and Mark Nuttall (17th), Clayton duo Dave Motley (18th) and Andrew Orr (19th), along with Mark Walsh (22nd) of Darwen Dashers.
Rossendale Harriers veteran Thornton Taylor took the men’s over 55 prize.
